JACKSON—Having competed in North and South State qualifying tournaments, more than 3,000 student archers representing schools across Mississippi are gearing up to compete in the 2015 Archery in Mississippi Schools (AIMS) State Tournament, April 14-16 at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center in Jackson. Archery has quickly gained in popularity among students in both public and independent school systems with more than 50,000 students now participating. AIMS is a Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ program designed to introduce 4th-12th graders to the sport of archery during their Physical Education class or as a school team sport. The program promotes international-style target archery as part of the in-school curriculum to improve educational performance and participation in shooting sports.
