Carbon Sequestration wildlife benefits

Carbon Sequestration equal benefits to wildlife while creating additional income on your investment? Carbon sequestration is the process by which atmospheric carbon dioxide is taken up by trees, grasses, and other plants through photosynthesis and stored as carbon in biomass (trunks, branches, foliage, and roots) and soils. The sink of carbon sequestration in forests and wood products helps to offset sources of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, such as deforestation, forest fires, and fossil fuel emissions. Over the past decade the carbon market has been in its infant stage while the scientific community developed the ability to measure the carbon that can be captured through reforestation. While some will argue this practice will have little effect on the global carbon foot print, there are some certain factors. For example land investors that own or intend to purchase a property that is suitable for reforestation can benefit from Carbon Sequestration. As an example using an interplant method known as 302-302, described as planting 302 Hardwood seedlings and 302 Cottonwood seedlings to each re-forested acre. By following this procedure the fast growing Cottonwoods will create a forest site within the first growing season that would take a pure Hardwood stand ten years to create, in other words the Cottonwood trees grow at such a rate that creating “New” wildlife bedding and foraging habitat can be accomplished in just one or two growing seasons. Obviously for wildlife and people interested in wildlife this is a major boom. Furthermore the fast growing Cottonwoods give a competitive element to the hardwoods by forcing them to expend their energy in vertical growth, creating a faster growing and more quality stand of timber within a much shorter timeline. Carbon is now traded as a commodity and has a value assigned to each metric ton registered on the trading board. So a landowner who enters into a Carbon Contract and sells the registered carbon can be paid for his / her carbon. Much like owning other commodities that can be bought or sold on the open market. Now with that said the value of sequestered carbon at today’s prices is not something a person is going to see huge profits from but non-the-less it is income on the investment and is creating a two fold return from wildlife and carbon and who knows at some point the price of carbon may reach higher values hence larger returns? There are companies out there that specifically register and trade carbon as well as help educate landowners on how to become “Carbon Farmers” while maximizing their property for income and wildlife. Personally I have become a “Carbon Farmer” and have begun to see the wildlife return on my investment. The company I chose to work though is Green Tree: www.greentrees.com . Sartain’s Heritage Properties specializes in land investment and development of the investment, to learn more on properties that offer the two fold return from wildlife and income give us a call.
